Apple's September 2026 lineup and your App Store screenshots
Apple's "Surprise and shine" event on September 9, 2026 was one of its busiest hardware days in years: the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, the iPhone Duo (Apple's first foldable), Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4, and AirPods 5. For anyone who ships an app, the question after an event like this is always the same — do I now have to redo my store screenshots?
The honest answer, device by device, is mostly no. This guide walks through everything Apple announced, separates the changes that touch your App Store or Google Play listing from the ones that do not, and shows what each means in practice inside Ecranify.
Everything Apple announced on September 9, 2026
Five product lines, two on-sale tracks. The iPhone 18 Pro models and the wearables shipped in September; the iPhone Duo follows in late October. There is no standard non-Pro iPhone 18 this cycle — Apple is expected to launch those in spring 2027.
Only one of these — the iPhone Duo — introduces a genuinely new screen shape, and even it did not arrive with a new App Store screenshot requirement. Everything else is a refresh.

iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max: a marketing refresh, not a compliance one
The Pro keeps its 6.3″ display and the Pro Max its 6.9″ display — identical to the iPhone 17 Pro generation. That means the mandatory 6.9″ App Store screenshot slot is still 1320 × 2868 px, and every screenshot you already have for it stays valid. The visible changes are a smaller Dynamic Island (now toggling between three Live Activities), a slightly thicker camera plateau, and a new Burgundy finish alongside Black, Silver and a light blue. Under the glass: the A20 Pro chip, Apple's C2 modem, a variable-aperture main camera, and a 2 TB storage tier for the first time on iPhone. Prices went up $100.
None of that forces a re-export. What it does is date your mockup: a listing built around last year's handset — a wider Dynamic Island, last year's colours — reads as a beat behind to a shopper holding the new phone. Refreshing it is a conversion decision, not a Store requirement.
- Nothing to re-upload: 6.3″ / 6.9″ unchanged, 1320 × 2868 px stays the 6.9″ standard.
- Update the device frame to the narrower Dynamic Island so the mockup matches the current hardware.
- Add a Burgundy device-colour variant if your brand leans warm — it is the standout new finish.
- Higher prices and a 2 TB tier raise the expectation that the listing itself looks premium.
iPhone Duo: the one real change, and it is not urgent yet
The iPhone Duo is Apple's first foldable: a book-style fold with a roughly 7.6″ inner display — close to an iPad's 4:3 — opening from a roughly 5.4″ cover display. It is 4.5 mm thin open, uses Touch ID in the side button instead of Face ID, has an under-display camera on the inner screen, and is eSIM-only in every market, so there is no SIM tray on the body at all. It goes on sale October 23, 2026 at $1,999.
Crucially for listings: Apple did not add an App Store Connect screenshot size or display class for the iPhone Duo at the event. It published developer sessions ("Design for iPhone Duo", "adaptive layouts on iPhone Duo") and a forthcoming Human Interface Guidelines document, all about making app UI resize fluidly — not about store assets. So there is no compliance deadline. The smart preparation is to build one unfolded ~4:3 frame now, from editable source, so you are ready whenever a slot appears. The dedicated deep-dive guide below covers the three ways that slot could land.
Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4: a quick check, not a project
Both watches are annual refreshes and carry over their display sizes, so the watchOS screenshot slot in App Store Connect is unchanged. If you ship a watchOS app, the only thing worth doing is making sure your existing watch screenshots still reflect the current watchOS look; there is no new required dimension.
Ecranify focuses on phone and tablet mockups, so watch screenshots are captured directly rather than framed in a 3D scene — but since nothing about the required sizes moved, that workflow is untouched.
AirPods 5: nothing to upload, but the halo still matters
AirPods have no App Store listing of their own, so there is literally nothing to re-export. The indirect effect is on companion and audio apps whose screenshots feature earbuds: a hero frame showing last year's AirPods now reads as slightly dated. If that describes your listing, swap the product shot; if it does not, ignore this one entirely.
The pattern: design from parametric sources, not flattened images
Every item on this list resolves to the same advice. If your screenshots are flattened PNGs exported from a design tool, each Apple event is a round of reopening files, nudging a device frame, retyping a headline and re-exporting at the right pixel size. If your screenshots are built from editable scenes, the same events are a five-minute re-export.
In Ecranify a scene bundles the background, device, camera, lighting and every text layer as one editable unit, and devices are generated from parameters rather than modelled as fixed meshes. A colour change, a narrower Dynamic Island, or an entirely new folding body are all just adjusted values — the export presets and the composition stay put.
Do this now in Ecranify
A short, concrete checklist so the September 2026 lineup costs you an afternoon rather than a redesign cycle.
- Refresh your iPhone Pro Max mockup, swap in current screen captures, and re-export the 6.9″ slot at 1320 × 2868 px — the size did not change.
- Add a Burgundy device-colour variant of your key frames if it suits the brand.
- Open the parametric device editor and build the iPhone Duo's unfolded ~4:3 body — thin 4.5 mm profile, Touch ID side button, under-display camera, no SIM tray — and keep that scene on standby.
- Keep all screen captures raw, with no device chrome baked in, so any new iPhone Duo screenshot slot is a re-frame rather than a recapture.
- Leave your watchOS screenshots as they are unless they look visually dated — no required size moved.
