Apple's September 2026 lineup and your App Store screenshots

Everything Apple announced on September 9, 2026

Five product lines, two on-sale tracks. The iPhone 18 Pro models and the wearables shipped in September; the iPhone Duo follows in late October. There is no standard non-Pro iPhone 18 this cycle — Apple is expected to launch those in spring 2027.

Only one of these — the iPhone Duo — introduces a genuinely new screen shape, and it is the only one that has since brought new App Store screenshot sizes with it. Everything else is a refresh.

iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max: a marketing refresh, not a compliance one

The Pro keeps its 6.3″ display and the Pro Max its 6.9″ display — identical to the iPhone 17 Pro generation. That means the mandatory 6.9″ App Store screenshot slot is still 1320 × 2868 px, and every screenshot you already have for it stays valid. The visible changes are a smaller Dynamic Island (now toggling between three Live Activities), a slightly thicker camera plateau, and a new Burgundy finish alongside Black, Silver and Glacier. Under the glass: the A20 Pro chip, Apple's C2 modem, a variable-aperture main camera, and a 2 TB storage tier for the first time on iPhone, at $1,199 for the Pro and $1,299 for the Pro Max.

None of that forces a re-export. What it does is date your mockup: a listing built around last year's handset — a wider Dynamic Island, last year's colours — reads as a beat behind to a shopper holding the new phone. Refreshing it is a conversion decision, not a Store requirement.

iPhone Duo: the one real change, and it now has a deadline

The iPhone Duo is Apple's first foldable: a book-style fold with a 7.6″ inner display at 1878 × 2670 pixels, opening from a 5.4″ cover display at 1398 × 2034 pixels. Apple's specifications put it at 5.2 mm thin open and 11.3 mm closed, with Touch ID in the side button instead of Face ID, an under-display FaceTime camera on the inner screen, and dual eSIM and no physical SIM tray at all. It shipped on October 23, 2026 in Night Sky and Star White at $1,999 for 256 GB, reaching 28 further countries and regions on October 30.

Crucially for listings: at the event itself Apple published no store-asset requirement for the iPhone Duo, only developer sessions about making app UI resize fluidly. That changed on October 5, 2026, when Apple opened App Store submissions for iPhone Duo optimised apps and published screenshot specifications for the device — so there is now both a size to design against and a date to hit. App Store Connect lists iPhone Duo as its own entry in the screenshot specifications, with one set per display: 1398 × 2034 pixels (or 2034 × 1398 in landscape) for the outer display, and 2007 × 2853 pixels (or 2853 × 2007) for the inner display. Both are optional today, and Apple adds that starting in April 2027 screenshots will be required for any app using the iOS 27.1 SDK or later — which reads as any submission built on that SDK, optimised for the Duo or not.

There is a reason to do it early rather than at the deadline: Apple says that when you submit iPhone Duo screenshots, your App Store product page displays a badge telling people the app is optimised for iPhone Duo. The rest of the checklist is short — recompile with Xcode 27.1, which adds iPhone Duo development support, check every pose and orientation in Device Hub, and preview how the assets land with App Store Connect's new product page preview tool. Every other store screenshot size is untouched by the launch.

Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4: a quick check, not a project

Both watches are annual refreshes and carry over their display sizes, so the watchOS screenshot sizes in App Store Connect are unchanged: Series 12 shares 416 × 496 pixels with Series 11 and Series 10, and Ultra 4 shares 422 × 514 pixels with Ultra 3. If you ship a watchOS app, the only thing worth doing is making sure your existing watch screenshots still reflect the current watchOS look; there is no new required dimension.

AirPods 5: nothing to upload, but the halo still matters

AirPods have no App Store listing of their own, so there is literally nothing to re-export. The indirect effect is on companion and audio apps whose screenshots feature earbuds: a hero frame showing last year's AirPods now reads as slightly dated. If that describes your listing, swap the product shot; if it does not, ignore this one entirely.

The pattern: design from parametric sources, not flattened images

Every item on this list resolves to the same advice. If your screenshots are flattened PNGs exported from a design tool, each Apple event is a round of reopening files, nudging a device frame, retyping a headline and re-exporting at the right pixel size.
