App Store header and search results asset sizes (iOS 27)

The App Store Header asset is 3840 × 1646 px (21:9) and the Search Results asset is 3:2, from 1920 × 1280 up to 3840 × 2560 px. Both accept JPEG or PNG. A single 5244 × 2950 px (16:9) PNG can fill both placements, and none of the images may contain an alpha channel.

These creative assets show on iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 and later. This guide lists the exact specs from Apple’s App Store Connect Help, the approximate safe areas, the content rules, and a workflow for producing all three files from one design, including our free creative assets generator.

Creative asset sizes and formats

Apple’s specification page lists two placements, each with an image and a video variant. The Universal asset appears in both the Header and the Search Results tables, which is why it works as a single file for both.

Video versions

Both placements can also use a video instead of an image. Header videos are 3840 × 1646 px, Search Results videos use the same 3:2 range as the image, and both run 5 to 30 seconds at 30 or 60 fps in .mov, .m4v or .mp4.

Videos loop continuously. In search results they are muted and cannot be unmuted, while on the product page they start muted and the viewer can turn sound on. Design the first frame so it still works as a poster.

A looping video is easiest to build from motion that returns to where it started: a slow camera pan across a wide background, floating screenshots, or a slideshow that cycles through your screens with a fade, blur, push or scale transition. Keep the movement slow and the first frame clean, because search results play the clip muted and in a small crop.

Rendering a video means encoding thousands of 4K frames. A 30-second clip at 60 fps is 1,800 frames and takes minutes on ordinary hardware, while 30 fps takes half the time and is a safe choice for a short, looping asset. The generator shows the remaining time and lets you cancel at any point.

No alpha channel

Apple’s image restrictions state that images cannot include alpha channels or transparencies. A PNG exported from most design tools carries an alpha channel even when nothing in it is transparent, so flatten the file on an opaque background or export JPEG for the two non-Universal placements.

The Universal asset is PNG only, so for that file the check matters most. Open the exported PNG in an image inspector and confirm it is 24-bit RGB rather than RGBA before uploading.

Safe areas: where the crop falls

Header and Search Results crop the same artwork differently depending on device and orientation. Apple advises keeping the focal point in the centre of the composition so nothing important is clipped, and publishes Figma, Photoshop, Pixelmator and Sketch templates with the exact crops.

Measurements taken from those templates by third parties put the central safe area at roughly the values below. Treat them as approximate and check them against the current Apple templates before you finalize.

Content rules

Creative assets go through App Review, and Apple’s guidance restricts what they may show. Keep text to a short phrase that supports the image rather than describing it.

  • No specific prices or discounts, website URLs or copyright symbols.
  • No unverifiable claims, Apple badges such as Editor’s Choice or App of the Day, or logos of other platforms.
  • No placeholder content, and nothing that misrepresents what the app does.
  • The asset must suit a 4+ age rating even if your app is rated higher.
  • Localize any text, and prefer artwork that works without words in smaller markets.

What shows when you skip them

Creative assets are optional. Without a Search Results asset, search keeps showing your screenshots and app previews, so they are an addition to a strong screenshot set, not a replacement for it. Our screenshot best practices still decide most of your conversion.

One design, three files

Design once around a centred focal point, then export each size. A 2:1 block of content sitting inside the smallest safe area survives every crop above, so lay out the headline, icon and one or two screenshots inside it and let only the background bleed to the edges.

The creative assets generator does this in the browser: pick a layout, add a background, key art, up to three screenshots, an icon and a headline, and it renders 3840 × 1646, 3840 × 2560 and 5244 × 2950 files as opaque images in one ZIP, or a seamless looping MP4 (camera pan, floating screenshots or a screenshot slideshow) for the Header and Search Results video slots. It shows an approximate safe-area overlay, and nothing is uploaded.

If you still need the screenshots themselves, the screenshot size guide lists every required resolution.

Frequently asked questions

The product page Header image is 3840 × 1646 px at a 21:9 aspect ratio, as JPEG or PNG. A 5244 × 2950 px PNG (16:9) can also be used for it.
